Klu Klux Klan (KKK)
The Klu Klux Klan (KKK) are known for their belief that white people are the superior race and that whites should be separated from blacks.
The First KKK The first Klan was founded in 1865 in Pulaski, Tennessee, by six veterans of the Confederate Army. The name is derived from the Greek work kuklos which means circle, suggesting a circle or band of brothers. Klan groups spread throughout the South during the Reconstruction Era in the United States. The Klan targeted freedmen and their allies, which was sought to restore white supremacy by threats, violence and even murder towards the black race. The Second KKK In 1915, the second Klan was founded in Atlanta, Georgia. The second KKK demanded the purification of politics, preaching "One Hundred Percent Americanism" It's official rhetoric focused on attacks of private homes and also carried out other violent attacks. The attacks were mostly located in the South. The Third KKK The "Klu Klux Klan" name was used by several local groups who were also against the idea of desegregation, especially in the 1950's and 1960's. Several members of the KKK were convicted of murder in the deaths of civil rights workers and children due to the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham. In April of 1997, FBI agents arrested four members of the True Knights of the KKK in Dallas for conspiracy to commit robbery and to blow up a natural gas |
